Privacy
for the app Silent Running (iOS and Android)
In short
Silent Running stores your runs only on your device. There is no account, no server, no analytics or tracking services and no advertising. We as the provider receive none of your data.

What data the app processes
During a recording: GPS positions with time stamp and altitude. From these the app calculates distance, time, pace, splits and best times. Optionally you can enter your body weight; the app uses it to estimate calories. All of this is stored locally in the app on your device and is not transmitted to us or to third parties. A run being recorded is held only in memory until you save it. Nothing of it is written to storage in between, so a discarded or interrupted run (for example if the app is closed) leaves no trace on the device.
Location
The app uses your location only while the Record tab is open or a run is being recorded. During a run the recording continues in the background: on iOS visible as the location indicator in the status bar, on Android as a persistent notification. You can withdraw the permission at any time in the system settings; recording is then not possible.
Maps
iOS
The map is shown with Apple Maps (MapKit). For that, iOS loads map tiles from Apple. Apple receives the displayed map area, but not your stored runs. Apple's privacy policy applies.
Android
The map uses OpenStreetMap data (library osmdroid). For that, the app loads map tiles from the servers of the OpenStreetMap Foundation, which receives the displayed map area and your IP address, but not your stored runs. The privacy policy of the OpenStreetMap Foundation applies.
Import and export
Imported files (for example a Strava export) are read on the device only. Exports are created locally as well; where they go is up to you via the share menu of your device.
Backups
If you use iCloud Backup, computer backups or the Android backup through your Google account, the operating system backs up the app data like that of other apps. You control this in the system settings. With encryption turned on, the backup contains only the encrypted file.
Encryption
Optionally you can encrypt all runs (Settings → Encryption). The 256-bit key then lives only in the hardware key store of your device (iOS keychain or Android Keystore), protected by Face ID, fingerprint or device code, and is never included in a backup. Runs are stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM; a backup contains only this encrypted file and cannot be read without the key. The key leaves the device only as a QR code or 24 words that you keep yourself. Only symmetric cryptography is used, which is considered secure against quantum computers as well. We cannot recover the key: without device and code the runs are lost for good. While the app is open, the data is decrypted in memory.
Crash reports
If you have agreed in the operating system to share diagnostic data with app developers, Apple or Google may provide us with anonymous crash reports. They contain no run data.
Deletion
You delete single runs in the list with a swipe. If you delete the app, all data is removed from the device. Since we store no data of yours, there is nothing to delete on our side.
Your rights
Since we process no personal data of yours, the rights to access, rectification, erasure and data portability have nothing to act on. For questions, reach us at contact@relevantive.de.
